(And I like to imagine he's looking up at John...)

And Rodney insisted that he be called an expert romantic. (John laughed in the background before Rodney shot him a *look* and then he suddenly was nodding and agreeing that Dr McKay really is an expert romantic).

Soon as I saw the ZPM pic, I just knew it had to be used. And really, anyone wanting to get to know Rodney better would know he'd like a ZPM (and now I'm having visions of a Kind of Pegasus galaxy scavenger hunt, with the ZPM being the ultimate goal - so that they can woo Rodney)
Oh, and the pic of John... mmmhmmmm... obviously I spent a lot of time considering whether to include that pic or not ;) (about the 0.2seconds it took the information of what I was looking at to reach my brain).
John was worried he'd have a hard time getting Rodney's attention back off the ZPM so he dressed up and posed enticingly (spoiler: it worked. Rodney *did* leave the ZPM behind for their date)

And Rodney has been strutting around all proud-like cos yep, that was for him.

Of course, anyone who ignores that warning has one of three things happen.
1. They try, and fail to gain attention
2. They suddenly find Atlantis doesn't work for them (there is no hot water anywhere)
Or 3. Somehow they either end up on a long-term off-worls team or doing extra PT every day
(The really, really unfortunate ones end up with all 3 consequences)

I also suspect a good portion of them are like, "Really? *HIM*?" When it comes to Rodney, because he may be good looking, but he's an asshole. And then he saves their lives, everyone on the city, perhaps the entire planet, AND he gets all soft & worried when John gets hurt, and then it's like, "Ohhhh."
I've always really loved the idea that John (and Rodney) really win over the people who do a rotation on Atlantis. A good portion become "lifers" who never want to leave Atlantis. But whenever people DO rotate back to the SGC, you can always tell where they've come from.
(Some of my favorite fics touch on this.)

They're probably aware of the rule for each other, but never think it applies to them. John would be all, of course we need a rule about how Rodney is off limits, but still be confused anytime someone shows interest in him. Rodney would be all, make sure all newbies are informed that hitting on the Colonel is *not* allowed, but not realise that there's a rule for him as well.
And yes - I love all the 'what does Sheppard see in McKay' tropes, followed by, 'oh. THAT!'
Everyone loves John and Rodney. 100%. Doesn't matter how long they're on Atlantis for, they all get won over. This would be epic in fics!
